The K&B drugstores were New Orleans favorites for decades. The first store opened in 1905 at 732 Canal Street. Founded by Gustave Katz and Sydney Besthoff, the chain eventually grew to around 50 locations.
A great many New Orleanians have fond memories of K&B, myself included. My personal favorite fountain treat was the nectar ice cream soda — delicious!
A few examples of K&B china, silverware, and glassware have survived over the years. Shown here is a small mustard or condiment jar that was once part of my collection. I sold it years ago, but fortunately photographed it while it was still mine.
Also shown is a K&B soda fountain menu, offering a wonderful glimpse at the food, drinks, and prices of the time.
